Course
Welcome to Mr. D’Agostino’s and Ms. Royal’s American Literature course. Within this course students will be introduced and learn about various literary pieces from different authors and time periods throughout American history. As we proceed, students will be able to demo
nstrate comprehension by identifying evidence (e.g., diction, imagery, point of view, figurative language, symbolism, plot events), main ideas, and cultural characteristics in a variety of texts representative of different genres (e.g., poetry, prose, [short story, novel, essay, editorial, biography], and drama) and use this evidence as the basis for interpretation.
The texts that we will use for this class are of the quality and complexity illustrated by the American Literature reading list. Our students will also be able to identify, analyze, and apply knowledge of the structures and elements of fiction from American author’s and provide evidence from the text to support their understanding.
